Winter Meetings take place in San Diego

For the first time since 2014, the Winter Meetings will be held in San Diego. What are the Winter Meetings?

The Winter Meetings are essentially a get together of the top brass for each baseball team, sports agents and free agent players. These parties come together and hopefully work towards a deal that makes everyone happy.

For Andrew Friedman, this will be his first Winter Meeting in San Diego since he took over as Dodgers President of baseball operations in 2014. That Winter Meeting, he went wild. Friedman instantly made an impact and traded fan favorite players and signed free agents.

You may recall what I’m talking about. Friedman traded Matt Kemp and to the San Diego Padres and the Dodgers received Yasmani Grandal amongst others. Then, Friedman signed Brandon McCarthy to a four year, $48 million deal.

Since that was done in San Diego four years ago, could that possibly happen again? There are signs pointing to at least something big happening this week by Andrew Friedman. Whether it is a big name free agent signing or a blockbuster trade, I believe that we will see something happen.
