I should have waited to write my last post regarding extensions but with extensions being signed almost every day now, I wouldn’t end up writing a new post for months! In the past few days, there have been even more high value players that have signed long term extensions with their current teams. Some are young rising stars while others are seasoned veterans.
Here are a few players that have signed contract extensions since my last post:
- Paul Goldschmidt, St. Louis Cardinals, 5-years, $150 million
- Blake Snell, Tampa Bay Rays, 5-years, $50 million
- Chris Sale, Boston Red Sox, 5-years, $160 million
There will probably be another name on here in the next few days and that name is Justin Verlander. The Houston Astros and Verlander are currently working on an extension for 2 years at $66 million. Although Justin Verlander is 35 years old, he is still one of the most dominant pitchers in the game. Especially since he was traded to Houston in 2017.
Now I imagine there will be a handful of other extensions that randomly happen here and there. I hope the Dodgers have an extension in the works for at least one of their young stars.
