Today in Arizona, Dave Roberts addressed the media and confirmed that Clayton Kershaw would be the Dodgers Opening Day starter for the ninth straight season. It wasn’t like we didn’t know this would happen but at least we got confirmation that it is going to happen.
Kershaw’s streak may be ending, though, since the rise of Walker Buehler. This year may be Clayton Kershaw’s final Opening Day start depending on how good Walker Buehler performs this upcoming season. We know that Buehler is the future Ace of the Dodgers, we are just waiting for him to claim his future throne.
It is only a matter of time until we see Clayton Kershaw pass the reigns off to Walker Buehler and I cannot wait for that moment. I’ll make a prediction and say that Buehler will win at least one Cy Young award in the next five seasons. I would even go as far as to compare him to Tim Lincecum when he was in his prime with the San Francisco Giants. Lincecum ended up with two Cy Young award and a plethora of other accolades including three World Series rings. Fingers crossed Walker Buehler can achieve both feats.
