Finally, one of the biggest names in baseball and one of the most prized Free Agents has come off the board. Manny Machado and the San Diego Padres have agreed on a 10-year, $300 million contract. This was first reported by Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports and Mark Feinsand.

This contract, for the time being, is the largest Free Agent contract in the history of American sports. When I say “time being”, I mean that because Bryce Harper has yet to sign his contract and will most likely receive more money than Machado. While there are no solid details out right now in regards to Manny Machado’s new contract, we do know that there is an Opt-Out after the fifth season. This would mean that Machado could hit the Free Agent market again when he is 31 years old.

Did the Padres overpay for Manny Machado? I don’t think so. Especially when you see that the deal is stretched out over ten years and not over seven or eight. Manny will serve a great purpose in San Diego and hopefully San Diego will commit to building a Championship team.
